    1. Rationale

    ASTM D6888 requires a manual addition of ligand exchange reagents prior to analysis of available cyanide. This revision includes an explanation of when the ligand exchange reagnets are needed and an option to automatically add a mixed diluted ligand reagent eliminating the preliminary manual addition. The method will be referenced as the US national method for the basis of standardization through ISO TC 147 SC 2 WG 66, including an expansion of the range to cover metallurgical solutions for use to meet International Cyanide Management Code needs as an Available Weak and Dissociable (WAD) cyanide method.
