Active Standard: A709 / A709M - 13a
A recent inquiry regarding the product analysis limits for vanadium content in Specification A709/A709M revealed a problem in the specification when used with the product analysis limits contained in Specification A6/A6M Table A. For A709/A709M, Grade 50 ,Types 2 and 3, the required vanadium content is 0.01% 0.15%; the lower product analysis limit from A6/A6M for a vanadium range with an upper limit between 0.10% and 0.25% is 0.02% under the minimum, resulting in a possible acceptable product analysis content of zero. The subcommittee agreed to ballot a revision to Table 3 adding a product analysis limit of 0.005% minimum for vanadium content for Grade 50 , Types 2 and 3 when the heat analysis vanadium content is at the lower end of the required range (0.01%). An identical revision is being balloted separately for Specification A572/A572M, Table 3.
