    1. Rationale

    There is a requirement in Section 4.3 that the displacement sensor for the horizontal extensometer has to be able to read to the nearest 1.27 m [50 in.]. This is only applicable if the extensometer has a magnification of 2. The governing requirement for the extensometer assembly is that the change in diameter has to be able to be measured to the nearest 0.5 m [25 in]. So the required resolution of the displacement sensor will depend on the design of the extensometer. Revisions are proposed to clarify the text and add a new Note to discuss the required resolution of the sensor.
