    1. Scope

    Document is intended to provide: 1)Recommended practices for investigating electrical incidents 2)Recommended practices for collection of artifacts and information related to electrical incidents 3)Recommended practices for dealing with victims of electrical incidents (for both deceased and survivors) 4)Understanding the fundamentals of electrical systems 5)Understanding the fundamentals of electrical investigative procedures. 6)A reminder of things to not forget during an investigation 1.1.This practice covers guidelines for the recognition, documentation, collection and preservation of potentially relevant information and physical items involving electrical incidents, electrical injury, and /or the electrocution of individuals in residential and industrial installations. 1.2.This guide does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

    The related guide for fire investigation NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations, does not cover (nor is it intended to) sufficient details to deal with investigation of electrical injuries, or electrical incidents. This guide is intended to provide information that will assist first responders, investigators, authorities, and others involved with technical assessment of electrical incidents. It is intended to increase safety awareness for these people along with providing a guide to ensure that critical pieces of information are not overlooked.
