Work Item: ASTM WK41275 - New Practice for Determination of Arch Stiffness Constant (ASC) and Flattening of Corrugated Wall Stormwater Collection Chambers

Developed by Subcommittee: F17.40 | Committee F17 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

This practice covers the determination of laboratory load-deflection characteristics of thermoplastic corrugated wall stormwater collection chambers under vertical loading. The chambers are produced from polypropylene (PP) or high density polyethylene (HDPE). The characteristics determined by this practice are arch stiffness constant (ASC) and flattening behavior. The results are used for manufacturing qualification and are not applicable to design. This practice provides standardized procedures to conduct evaluation or qualification testing for acceptance of stormwater chamber finished products. The current method is incorporated into ASTM standards F2418 (PP stormwater chambers) and F2922 (PE stormwater chambers) and relies on portions of D2412 (parallel plate test), however, the current format lacks the details to standardize the practice for ASC testing. Users will include manufacturers of stormwater chambers and purchasers.
