Work Item: ASTM WK41102 - New Practice for Standard Practice for the Relative Block Resistance of Inks and Coatings using the I.C. Block Tester

Developed by Subcommittee: D01.56 | Committee D01 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

This practice covers a procedure for testing the resistance of printed inks and coatings to blocking during storage in a stack or roll relative to a control, preferably with a known blocking performance or alternatively to differentiate between samples of unknown blocking properties. Blocking can include cling, adhesion, transfer, or other interactions between two opposing surfaces under conditions of pressure, heat and humidity. The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. To be used by printers, convertors and printing ink manufacturers for quality-control, troubleshooting and formulation development.
