1. Scope
This guide is intended to define the minimum requirements for a body that provides certifications in the field of search and rescue. This standard represents a simplified version of ANSI-ISO-IEC 17024 Conformity assessment General requirements for bodies operating certification of persons, which is the national/international standard for certification bodies, which in general is beyond the capabilities of organizations that commonly rely on volunteers. This guide identifies the minimum standards that a certifying body should comply with to ensure professionalism, accountability, and help AHJs in determining equivalency during the credentialing process. The guide would apply to certification bodies that certify personnel in the field of search and rescue. This guide would not be applicable to the certification of non-personnel, such as equipment, testing procedures, etc.
