ASTM WK40700

(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK40700 - Revision of F558 - 11 Standard Test Method for Measuring Air Performance Characteristics of Vacuum Cleaners

Active Standard: F558 - 11

Developed by Subcommittee: F11.22 | Committee F11 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

There have been questions and discussions centered on the action of a brush roll during the nozzle testing portion of this standard. Since the original publication of F558, technology now allows for the option of turning the brush roll off, for some vacuum cleaners, during the floor cleaning process. For some products this can affect the air performance results. During the November 2012 F11.22.02 and F11.22 meetings, the members discussed the issue and were polled on their positions on this issue and it was agreed that the brush roll must be engaged during the nozzle testing for consistency.
