(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK40603 - Revision of F1882 - 06 Standard Specification for Residential Basketball Systems

Active Standard: F1882 - 06

Developed by Subcommittee: F08.25 | Committee F08 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

F 1882-06, Standard Specification for Residential Basketball Systems currently includes two testing requirements for all portable basketball systems, section 6.1.2, which specifies an eighty (80) pound maximum weight measured at the goal rim while resting the product in a level horizontal position and section 6.1.4, which specifies a maximum of 66 inches measured at the tip of the goal rim at its balance point when tilted forward. While these are very valid requirements for most all portable basketball systems (those that require the unit to be tilted during transport or laid down during storage), there are those portable systems which may roll on four wheels during transport and are never laid down during storage. These large portable basketball systems may typically be configured with very heavy backboards due to their sturdy nature. Also, a revision to section 8.3 is proposed as a true or exact representation of warning labels to be included in the products assembly instruction manual may include redundant or non-pertinent information such brand logos or customer service information included in other locations in the manual.
