WK40538 Revision of D6691 - 09 Standard Test Method for Determining Aerobic Biodegradation of Plastic Materials in the Marine Environment by a Defined Microbial Consortium or Natural Sea Water Inoculum

1. Rationale

This ballot is for ASTM D-6691 since the method needs a 5 year review. In particular, the consortium of microorganisms method has been removed. Our laboratory has developed a library of data showing that the consortium data and natural sea water data for the same samples give comparable biodegradation results. The natural sea water method is simplified in comparison to the consortium method and can easily be performed anywhere.
