1. Rationale
The Terminology Subcommittee of ASTM C15 requested the C15.04.03 task group review keywords of the standards under the task groups jurisdiction and write definitions for the most significant keywords. The task group determined that the keywords; water penetration, surface water penetration, through-wall water penetration, and wind-driven rain were most important to both C1601 and E514. Through the balloting of these terms, a negative was received that requested the term Dampness be defined. This term appears 1 time in C1601. The term will be uniquely defined and as being ballot will only be applicable in the context of C15 committee standards and committee work. It is the intent of the subcommittee to have this term also appear in C1232 once it passes main committee balloting. A similar item is currently being balloted for modification of C1601.
