1. Rationale

There are a sufficient number of grammatical, vocabulary and punctuation errors to warrant an editorial update. Years of analyzer use in the coal industry have shown us enough about the applications and evaluation of performance that some technical changes are also in order. We intend to conduct a survey of users and undertake two steps in parallel, those being the editorial revision and the technical revision.
