1. Rationale
Section 5 (Significance and Use) references three alternative testing procedures for which neither a testing protocol nor endpoint/acceptance criteria is provided within E1529-10. Unlike the others, one of these informational only procedures -- the application of restraint against longitudinal thermal expansion (an alternative to the E1529-10 required simply supported beam end conditions) -- has not been included within a subsequent Test Method section, neither as a text section nor as a text note. The ballot item proposes correcting the omission by adding new section 16.4, for consistency with 15.2.2, Note 6 (being balloted to become new section 16.2.6), and Note 7 (being balloted to become new section 17.6).
