1. Rationale
Section 5 (Significance and Use) references three alternative testing procedures for which neither a testing protocol nor endpoint/acceptance criteria is provided within E1529-10. One of these informational only procedures is provided as a text note (Note 1), differently than the others. The ballot item proposes changing Note 1 into new section 5.2.3: (1) for consistency with the other Section 5 alternative testing procedures within that section, and (2) because Note 1 includes an objectionable mandatory provision. (ASTMs Form and Style for ASTM Standards states: Notes in the text shall not include mandatory requirements.)
