1. Rationale

The definition of equivalent alkalies could be improved by changing the words the total to read a weighted average. The word total implies a simple sum of the Na2O and K2O contents whereas the calculation provides a molecular weight ratio of the sum. A change to the discussion is also proposed, to insert the word weight to clarify that the molecular weight ratio is what the coefficient 0.658 refers to.
