1. Rationale
In Committee C 15 there were three terminology standards: 1. C1232 Standard Terminology of Masonry 2. C 43 Terminology of Structural Clay Products 3. C 1209 Terminology of Concrete Masonry Units and Related Units. In 2009 the C 15 Executive Committee approved combing these three standards into one C 1232. Standards C 43 and C 1209 were withdrawn after their contents were moved into C 1232. The Terminology Subcommittee now believes there is a more appropriate title for standard C 1232. The ballot item is to replace the current title of C 1232 Standard Terminology of Masonry with the new proposed title C 1232 Standard Terminology of Masonry: Units and Related Systems.
