1. Rationale
The present revision of ASTM D5865 Gross Calorific Value of Coal and Coke, references Research Report RR:D05-1025 as footnote 3 throughout the standard in connection with testing coke samples. The committee has asked for a more definitive statement in section 15, Precision and Bias, with regard to the limits of repeatability and reproducibility for the gross calorific value when coke sample are analyzed. The statement will effectively summarize the findings offered in the research report. The aim is to provide more clarity and transparency to the standard at the same time eliminating the need in most cases for the user to refer to the referenced research report.
