1. Rationale
There is a need to update the corrosiveness test performance using ASTM C1617. This goal is to have this performance requirement, per C1617, replace the C665 corrosiveness test. The performance to be voted on is that the mass loss corrosion rate of the un-faced insulation extract shall not exceed that of the 5-ppm chloride solution. This will apply to all aerogel materials covered by this specification with the exception of one material. A note will be added beneath Table 1 which will read: NOTE 2: Type II, Grade 1, Category A material is not intended for direct contact to carbon steel. Therefore, C1617 testing is Not Applicable.
