ASTM WK39407

(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK39407 - Revision of A106 / A106M - 11 Standard Specification for Seamless Carbon Steel Pipe for High-Temperature Service

Active Standard: A106 / A106M - 11

Developed by Subcommittee: A01.09 | Committee A01 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

An inquiry from a user has indicated that there exists some confusion concerning an apparent conflict about the minimum required length for double random lengths as expressed in paragraph 17.1.3. This revision attempts to clarify the requirement. The revision is not intended to change any present requirements. The revision retains the following requirements: Pipe can be ordered in either single random lengths or double random lengths. Single random lengths do not have a minimum average length, but 95% of the pipes must be between 16 and 22 ft. [4.8 to 6.7 m] and 5% may be shorter than 16 ft. [4.8 m] but none shall be shorter than 12 ft. [3.7 m]. Double random lengths do have a minimum average length, of 35 ft. [10.7 m], do not have a maximum length, and 95% of the pipes must be at least 22 ft. [6.7 m] while 5% may be shorter than 22 ft. [6.7 m] but none shall be shorter than 16 ft. [4.8 m].
