    1. Rationale

    The workmanship section of specification D5798 contains language to address silicon contamination in spark-ignition engine fuels. That language currently states that there is no ASTM approved test method for determining silicon in gasoline, gasoline-oxygenate blends, denaturants, hydrocarbon blend components, or denatured fuel ethanol. During the spring semester of 2012 ASTM standard D7757 - 12 Standard Test Method for Silicon in Gasoline and Related Products by Monochromatic Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry was published. This test method is applicable to ethanol fuel blends covered by D5798. The statement in D5798 is now incorrect. This ballot is to correct the error in the current language by removing the sentence related to the lack of an approved ASTM method. Subcommittee D02.A felt the modifications to D4814 proposed in the ballot were minor updates to the standard. Due to the minor nature of the proposed modifications, the Subcommittee D02.A chair approved this ballot for concurrent Committee D02/ Subcommittee D02.A voting. The standards being balloted for this same revision include D4806, D4814 and D5798. The workmanship task force is considering additional wording to address the
