ASTM WK39230

(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK39230 - Revision of D5624 - 02(2007) Standard Test Method for Determining the Transverse-Aggregate Spread Rate for Surface Treatment Applications

Active Standard: D5624 - 02(2007)

Developed by Subcommittee: D04.24 | Committee D04 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

Ballot Rationale This process for obtaining uniform distribution of aggregates from an aggregate spreader is used by a number of agencies. However, variations in the mat width and material are common. The process of establishing, calibrating and verifying the transverse spread rate is consistent but the specifics in use and results vary substantially, depending on the material being placed, type of project, equipment manufacturer, age, condition, etc. A precision statement is not applicable to calculations which are uniquely specific to each combination of equipment, material, and mat variations. Therefore, this standard has been reworked: As a practice rather than a test method. To include a generic equation for calculating the mass of material over an area is included for guidance only. To update the unit statement to reflect the required wording for SI units.
