1. Rationale
This revision will update the current precision for the D6584 method. The new precision is based on an Interlaboratory Study conducted in 2011. The study included 20 samples, with 14 unique samples and 6 blind duplicates. Eleven laboratories, spanning the petroleum, biodiesel, and general interest members participated in the study. The D2PP analysis showed an improved precision for total glycerin, monoglycerides, diglycerides, and triglycerides. Repeatability for free glycerin did not improve over the current method, although reproducibility did improve. No substantial changes have been made to the method since the last precision statement was approved. The new r and R represent the best practices in the industry and most realistic measure of precision of this method.
