1. Scope
This test method describes the application of commercially available CW-CRDS instruments to the purity analysis of fuel cell grade hydrogen. A measurement procedure is specified for the measurement of trace water, methane, oxygen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, formic acid, and ammonia in fuel cell grade hydrogen. An introduction to the principle of CW-CRDS is also provided along with details of the instrument used.
CW-CRDS provides an optimal means of rapidly establishing the purity of fuel cell grade hydrogen, providing a high sensitivity, high accuracy, continuous measurement of a range of impurities, with detection limits that exceed currently drafted purity specifications. The standard will allow the appropriate use of commercial CW-CRDS instruments for hydrogen purity measurement applications by research groups for fuel development, metrology institutes and government agencies for compliance monitoring, and manufacturers and suppliers, including point of delivery applications, for quality control purposes.
