1. Rationale
At the Executive Committee meeting on January 8, 2012, Steve Duren of The Adhesive and Sealant Council, Inc. (ASC) spoke regarding sustainability relative to sealants and adhesives. ASC would like to harmonize sustainability terms relative to sealant with ASTM C24. ASC provided a list of sealant terms that they would like ASTM C24 to consider; however C24 does not include terms in C717 unless the terms are used in a standard or standards. It was suggested by the Executive committee that sustainability of sealants be addressed in C1193. A new task group is therefore needed to address C1193 relative to including a section or sections relative to sustainability of sealants.
