1. Rationale
Project X-94-46: There has been confusion as to how sample thickness should be called out in several designations under Suffix F (Flammability) found in Table 3 of ASTM D4000. Where other suffix sections ask for a 3-digit number x factor = value, Suffix F calls for 3-digit number = thickness x factor. Though the end result is the same, not everyone interprets it the same and there is potential to list the line call-out incorrectly. This rewording will affect suffixes FA, FF, FJ, FM, FN, FU, and FV. Though these are editorial, the fact that the burn rate must be listed as a maximum was previously omitted on suffixes FA, FJ, FU and FV and needs to be added as well.
