(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK38416 - Revision of C840 - 11 Standard Specification for Application and Finishing of Gypsum Board

Active Standard: C840 - 11

Developed by Subcommittee: C11.03 | Committee C11 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

This is the work product of a joint task group from C11.03 and E06.21. Although he initial purpose of this revision is to develop recommendations for the application of gypsum board over Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) walls. The recommendations are planned as a revision to C840 but that could change as the project evolves. The specific questions to be addressed include, but are not limited to, the follows: 1. Does the ICF industry have a recommendation for control joints in an ICF assembly? 2. Do they publish any details for control joints in gypsum board? 3. What about gypsum board as a thermal barrier both with and without control joints? 4. Are there any screw withdrawal tests? What were the results? 5. Is there something similar to the screw spinout test for steel studs? 6. What is the ICF industrys experience with cracking drywall joints? Especially butt joints? 7. What is the spacing of the attachment strips? 8. What product standards exist for the ICF blocks? 9. What are the recommendations regarding adhesive applications over CMU? A collaboration site is also being created where anything we do can be published and worked on.
