Work Item: ASTM WK38404 - New Practice for The Application of Intumescent Coatings to Structural Steel

Developed by Subcommittee: E06.21 | Committee E06 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

This practice covers guidelines for application and inspection of Intumescent Coating materials for fire resistant rated steel structures. Currently the passive fire protection industry does not have set standards for the specification, application and inspection of intumescent fire resistance materials to structural steel. This causes confusion within the industry as to the proper practices and procedures that must be employed to ensure that the installation and inspection of installed intumescent fire resistance materials meets specifications, industry and manufacturer requirements.
