1. Rationale
During the meeting at November 20, 2008 Subcommittee C11.02 meeting in St. Louis, the task group (C474/C475) discussed the revision to the number of passes that were to be used to apply self-adhering joint tape. The number of passes was reduced from 10 to two (2) in the proposed test method. It was agreed upon at the meeting that under normal application of self-adhering joint tape, a user would apply hand pressure across the joint tape twice (left-to-right or up-to-down motion); 10 passes is excessive and unrealistic. Thus the two (2) passes of the roller in the proposed test method more accurately represents the actual application methodology.
