This method aims to provide a means for the rapid assessment of In-Service Oil Properties using infrared spectroscopy. It describes a methodology for sampling, performing analysis and providing key In-Service Oil Properties with a handheld or portable, self-contained unit that is meant for field use.
The standard is needed because there already exists a large user base in a variety of industries which rely on such field equipment to ascertain the status of their in-service oil. However there as yet exists no standard for this analysis. Users include mining companies, municipalities, oil companies, oil analysis service providers, amongst many other industries.
