1. Rationale

Since the first ASTM Precast Box Culvert Standards were developed in the Mid 70s, the use of precast box culverts has expanded rapidly. As the use of the product has expanded, so have the sizes of the structures that are used on a routine basis. This revision is to incorporate additional information into Table 1 of ASTM C 1577 to allow a broader range of standard sizes and reduce the amount of special designs required under this standard.
