ASTM WK37900

(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK37900 - Revision of A105 / A105M - 11a Standard Specification for Carbon Steel Forgings for Piping Applications

Active Standard: A105 / A105M - 12

Developed by Subcommittee: A01.22 | Committee A01 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

Rationale: A dispute between a manufacturer and a purchaser has highlighted the need for a clarification of the requirements for tension tests when forgings of different sizes, but all from the same heat, are heat treated together in a single heat-treating charge. This action adds language from A694/A694M to clarify that only one test from each heat and lot need be tested, as long as the test specimen is from the forging with the thickest cross section. In other words, one test specimen represents all the forgings of the same heat as long as the test specimen is from the forging with the thickest cross section.
