During the regular five year review of this standard it was identified that no research report exists to support the precision and bias statement. In order to keep this standard on the books it will be necessary to conduct and interlaboratory study to support the precision and bias statement. As the vast majority of users have discontinued the use of this method in favor of D4239 it is unlikely that sufficient laboratories can be found to conduct a suitable interlaboratory study. As a result, it is recommended that this standard be withdrawn and replaced with D4239. Laboratories currently using this method may continue to use it as is, however it would no longer be published as an active standard.
