1. Rationale
The current version of Section 4.3.2 Performance Requirements (see below) requires that three samples of the burner be tested eight times each with the prescribed candle. It has been brought to the attention of the subcommittee that it is burdensome and time consuming to test these types of products (specifically lanterns) with larger candles like pillars and tapers and that no fire incidents have occurred with these types of candle burner products. The new version (see below) of Section 4.3.2 prescribes testing three samples one time each with the identified candle. We have also added a requirement that the type, size and number of candles be identified with a label on the burner to eliminate any confusion as to what candle should be used with the burner.
