1. Rationale
In 2009, ASTM C18 passed ASTM C1721 Standard Guide for Petrographic Examination of Dimension Stone. Modeled after ASTM C295 Standard Guide for Petrographic Examination of Aggregates for Concrete, ASTM C1721 describes features, characteristics, and attributes of dimension stone for which petrographic observations, descriptions, and interpretations may provide useful information as to the behavior and performance of that stone for its intended use. References to C295 and C856 Practice for Petrographic Examination of Hardened Concrete will be deleted from C1528.
