1. Scope
This standard practice covers the collection of particulate by wipe sampling using a friction/slip tester or equivalent device to control wipe sampling factors. This practice allows for direct comparison of particle collection efficiency of different wipe materials that may be used in wipe sampling of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) materials. Collection efficiency is determined by counting fluorescent particles as specified in this practice, or by subsequent extraction and analysis procedures specific to the type of particulate (not included in this practice.
Swipe sampling is a necessary step prior to analysis for collection of samples in CBRNE detection for Homeland Security and emergency response situations.
