1. Rationale
GOAL: Revise the standard to recognize use of aluminum nozzles meeting corrosion resistance test requirements. Add test requirements to the standard. RATIONALE; Lightweight equipment is appropriate aboard ships with lightweight construction. Use of dis-similar metals (brass nozzles aboard an aluminum ship) may not always be advisable. There have been large advances in corrosion resistant finishes for aluminum in the time since the rationale for this standard was originally developed. Setting performance based requirements encourages use of the best available technology.
