ASTM WK37579

(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK37579 - Revision of F2136 - 08 Standard Test Method for Notched, Constant Ligament-Stress (NCLS) Test to Determine Slow-Crack-Growth Resistance of HDPE Resins or HDPE Corrugated Pipe

Active Standard: F2136 - 08

Developed by Subcommittee: F17.40 | Committee F17 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

The 5 year review period is almost up and there were needed revisions that passed a previous ballot, but the whole ballot was stopped by a persuasive negative on an individual topic. I would like to start a new revision for those items that were passed. The revisions include adding a specified razor blade, language about bath life and bath stability, specifying 600 psi as the applied stress, and adding a note suggesting notches can be measured after the specimens break. These changes should help improve the precision and bias of the test method.
