During a recent High-Level Nitrogen inter-laboratory study (ILS) related to the D5762-based boat-inlet nitrogen standard test method, a unique sample introduction system was demonstrated. This task group (TG) proposes to revise D5762 to include an alternate procedure that enables the use of a cold-zone direct sample injection technique. The proposed alternate procedure will feature the following attributes: 1.Direct-injection of the test specimen in a 100C environment: oPreserves sample integrity by eliminating / minimizing syringe in-needle evaporative effects oPrevents syringe in-needle blockage / plugging oYields equivalent nitrogen determinations 2.Sample matrix type and nitrogen concentration range compatibility 3.Linear and 2nd order calibration curve compatibility Although the proposed alternate procedure will be constructed to accommodate the described unique (proprietary) cold-injection technology; the task group will be willing to include other direct-injection nitrogen determination system types.
