(What is a Work Item? / How to Input to a Work Item)

Work Item: ASTM WK37174 - Revision of D2700 - 11e1 Standard Test Method for Motor Octane Number of Spark-Ignition Engine Fuel

Active Standard: D2700 - 12

Developed by Subcommittee: D02.01 | Committee D02 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Rationale

A recent Interlaboratory Study has been conducted to assess precision for MON on Fuels containing ethanol from (inclusive of) 15% to (inclusive of) 25% v/v. This inter-laboratory test program was undertaken to assess the applicability and precision of D2700 when this method is used to determine octane ratings of the higher ethanol fuels expected in the near future. More specifically, the purposes of this inter-laboratory test program were: a. to demonstrate that test methods D2700 as currently practiced are applicable to spark-ignition engine fuels containing up to 25 volume-% ethanol, and b. to determine the precision of D2700 when fuels containing up to 25 volume-% ethanol are tested.
