1. Rationale
Measurement of spatial appearance attributes of gonioapparent materials is beginning to take hold in the industry with the introduction of the Byk-MAC. I am seeing some confusion around terminology as it relates to these measurements. We should try to get ahead of the problem by getting some new terms codified in E284. Suggested revisions to include for example: sparkle(revised definition), sparkle intensity (new definition), sparkle area (new definition), graininess (new definition), glint (new reference to preferred term sparkle), diffuse coarseness (new reference to prefered term graininess), texture (revised definition to include subsurface features seen in gonioapparent materials)
