1. Scope
This practice stipulates the types, names and sizes of markings used to facilitate collection and identification of manufactured articles for end of life purposes.
The recycling community has for 20 years attempted to use the Resin Identification Code system to help educate consumers on which products are accepted in municipal waste programs. Unfortunately, the RIC system was never intended for that purpose. In response to the request of the municipal recyling organizations, we are proposing a practice that will more efficiently assist public education.
