Work Item: ASTM WK36685 - New Practice for Preservation of Microbial Strain Surrogates used in Microbicidal Testing

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: E35.15 | Committee E35 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

This standard describes laboratory practices for the preservation of standard type strains (i.e. surrogate microorganisms) for use as defined in existing ASTM microbicidal testing standards under E35.15 jurisdiction for the determination of bactericidal, fungicidal, mycobactericidal, and sporicidal activity of disinfectants and antiseptics. It does not include description of individual practices to propagate and prepare standardized working inocula for use in any specified standard microbicidal test method. Rather, it is recommended that prescribed practices as outlined in specific standard method protocols be utilized.

This standard is designed to present standard methods for preservation of microorganisms used as defined in existing ASTM microbicidal testing standards under E35.15 jurisdiction. The standard may be used by anyone performing E35.15 test methods.
