Work Item: ASTM WK36639 - New Test Method for Determination of Boron, Silicon and Technetium in Hydrolyzed Uranium Hexafluoride by Inductively Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometer after Removal of Uranium by Solid Phase Extraction

Developed by Subcommittee: C26.05 | Committee C26 Home | Contact Staff Manager

1. Scope

This test method covers the determination of boron, silicon and technetium in hydrolyzed uranium hexafluoride (UF6) by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) after separation of the uranium by solid phase extraction. The method is capable of measuring the concentration of boron, silicon and technetium in uranium hexafluoride. Limits for these contaminants are set in C787 and C996. It supports demonstration of compliance with nuclear fuel cycle standards and is therefore of value to companies and organizations involved in conversion of uranium to uranium hexafluoride, uranium enrichment and nuclear fuel fabrication.

Keywords
