Recent research has identified an E1130-like measurement for closed plan spaces (using a calibrated loudspeaker, and measuring only at the receiver location, and then calculating SPC). The results of this simplified measurement appear to be correctable to estimate the results of the full E2638 method (measuring in the source room also, for multiple source positions). The intent of this work item is to introduce this simplified method into E2638 likely as a non-mandatory Appendix for occasions where the full characterization of the room may not be necessary, or where a possibly lower precision may be permissable. Furthermore, the relationship between AI (or equivalently, PI) and SPC has recently been studied; and it appears that these open and closed plan metrics are highly correlated over a wide range of privacy: it may be sensible to include reference to AI in E2638 for lower values of SPC.
