Specification CI09 in Section 10.6.2 says to check the cube faces, which will be in contact with the bearing blocks of the compression machine, with a straight edge to see if there is appreciable curvature. Since it does not say otherwise, it is taken to mean that each cube tested is checked each time tests are made. This amount of checking does not seem necessary to assure that the cube molds have not worn or are deformed. This adds significantly to the time required for testing. Cube molds wear very slowly. The molds are checked every 2 to 2 1/2 years by CCRL. If, in addition, the testing lab checked each cube from each mold annually, that should be sufficient.
