1. Rationale
ASTM D7547 was originally proposed to Subcommittee J.02 on Aviation Gasoline in June 2008 as a stand alone specification for unleaded gasoline, at the behest of U.S. Department of Defense in order to enhance specific military acquisition and usage needs. Ballot D02 (10-04) Item 44 proposed a number of changes to the D7547 specification, including the addition of orange dye. The ballot item received one negative unrelated to the addition of orange dye. This negative was ruled persuasive at the December 2011 ASTM meeting in New Orleans, LA. The D02 Subcommittee J Chairman has authorized a ballot for the addition of orange dye to the specification.
