1. Rationale
A 2006 revision to section A3.2.6 of D446 has precluded the use of the timing bulb J on Cannon Fenske Opaque viscometers when measuring any type of sample. This revision was intended to limit such guidance for non-Newtonian fluid samples. It was brought to the attention of the Subcommittee that users of this viscometer, who are measuring Newtonian samples, have been in fact using both bulbs C and J successfully to meet the requirements of D445 for two determinations. The 2006 revision has significantly impacted their laboratory efficiencies. This proposed revision adds back the capability to use both bulbs for Newtonian samples.
