    1. Rationale

    ASTMs Form and Style for ASTM Standards provides for the use of text notes for matters not actually required by the standard. E1529-10 makes use of seven text notes, three of which (Notes 1, 6, and 7) relate to provisions for testing for which neither the protocol is required nor its endpoint criteria specified.
