ASTM WK35705

New Guide for Sustainability Characterization of Manufacturing Processes

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: E60.13 | Committee E60 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

Batch, Continuous, and Discrete Manufacturing Processes; Large/SME manufacturers

The primary purpose of the guide is to define the methodology and measurement framework for improving the sustainability of manufacturing processes. The current use of ad-hoc methods to informally describe sustainability of manufacturing processes creates inefficiencies/disparities and hinders the ability of manufacturers to effectively evaluate the sustainability performance of its manufacturing processes. This guide supports the characterization of unit manufacturing processes (UMPs) using a generic representation (template) and a Sustainability Characterization Methodology that assists in the construction of a specific UMP model. The resulting model will support the calculation of the sustainability performance for that specific process at part, assembly, and product levels.
