1. Scope
This test method covers measurement of the retroreflective properties of sign materials such as traffic signs and symbols (vertical surfaces) using a mobile retroreflectometer. The mobile retroreflectometer is a vehicle-mounted system that can be used at highway speeds to measure to measure retroreflective properties of traffic signs. The measurements can be compared to minimum requirements to determine the need for replacement.
The need is based on the new US regulations to maintain traffic sign retroreflectivity at specified levels.
